SCARS 10th Anniversary Event
PUNK HOSTAGE PRESS and Grimey’s New and Preloved Music invite YOU to join us as we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the release of SCARS — the first collection of her writings that candidly reveal her battles with child abuse, domestic violence, molestation, addiction, crime, incarceration, and recovery.
Hosted at Nashville’s pop-culture mecca, Grimey’s New and Preloved Music, the evening’s entertainment includes live readings by the author, nadia bruce-rawlings, and an appearance and readings by “blue-collar” published writer and poet, Dan Denton. Performances by Nashville music duo, The Prickly Pair, will compliment the festivities. The event starts promptly at 5pm on October 26, 2024 at 1060 East Trinity Lane; Nashville Tennessee, 37216; and is free to the public. A limited amount of signed copies of nadia’s book will be available for purchase while supplies last or pre-order YOUR COPY now for pick-up at the event.
FROM THE PUBLISHER:
Nadia Bruce-Rawlings has written a collection of stories with a dark humor and candor that only someone with a survivor's gratitude can. She takes us on a journey that cracks open family secrets, illustrating the evolution of dysfunction from its very core. She reminds us, as children we do not get to choose our surroundings, while relying on our parents for protection, love, and nurturing, preparing us for our own adult journey into the world, and that more times than not, this isn't the case. Because parents get abused and scarred, by their parents who got abused and scarred, by their parents, and so on. And with each generation the trauma grows, becoming a collection and a reflection of an ongoing tradition of generational abuse. This book is written based on Nadia's experiences on the front lines of her own personal battles with child abuse, domestic violence, molestation, addiction, crime, cutting, incarceration, and recovery. After hitting a bottom so hard with only two options left, life or death. Nadia drives home the sad and brutal truth that not everyone gets that choice. Many do not live to tell. This book is written for them, an epitaph. This book is also a love letter and a promise that there is hope for a better life, written for the ones that are still out there, still fighting their way in, and not out, who have lost their way, and still collecting scars. -Iris Berry, PUNK HOSTAGE PRESS
ABOUT DAN DENTON AND THE PRICKLY PAIR
Dan Denton is a former union autoworker, UAW Chief Steward, lifetime blue-collar worker, writer and poet. His writing has been published in magazines, newspapers, union journals, anthologies, and often in Toledo Streets Newspaper. He has authored three books, which include two acclaimed novels, $100-A-Week Motel (Punk Hostage Press, 2021) and The Dead and the Desperate (Roadside Press, 2023) and a poetry/novella hybrid, as well as dozens of chapbooks of poetry, and he has toured as a spoken word artist for over a decade. Last year he was voted the best writer and author in Toledo, and after accepting an early retirement buy out offer from Toledo Jeep, he now lives full-time in a small travel trailer out in rural parts of the Midwest, chasing his biggest writer daydreams.

“Nadia Bruce Rawlings uses grains of her once gritty life to infuse her stories with cathartic realism” She’ll be reading from her books “Driving in the Rain” and “Scars” both published by Punk Hostage Press.
Rebecca Weiner Tompkins’s poems (King of the Fireflies, Sensitive Skin Books) lead through landscapes-- urban; rural; mythological; emotional; erotic; cultural; political; and spiritual-- and the borders between them, with the voice of a figure in those landscapes, struggling to navigate love, loss, and mortality while juxtaposing natural and human-made environments.
